Choose Uplink before starting WebXash
The embedded window first opens a project launcher. For the experience described on this page, use Half-Life Demos and choose Uplink (45M), then Start Demo. This distinction matters: the same WebXash project has more than one launch path, and choosing a different option changes the content and setup you should expect.
Uplink is a standalone demonstration rather than a promise of the entire Half-Life campaign. It gives you a direct way to try the browser engine without beginning with a full-game folder import. If you followed the Radiant Optimizer browser games thread for a quick Half-Life session, this is the specific demo route to use.
The first load is part of the launch
WebXash must prepare the selected demo before the game menu becomes available. The Uplink selector’s 45M label is a useful clue that this is more than an instant HTML game. Download and initialization time depend on the connection and the device, so leave the window open while its status is still advancing.
A browser profile that has not used the project before may behave differently from one that already has project data. Avoid clearing site storage as your first troubleshooting step: it can force another download and may affect information the project keeps locally.
Separate the launcher from the game menu
Start Demo takes you from the selection interface into the game. You still need New game and a difficulty in the resulting menu before a playable scene appears. If the window shows a menu, check that stage of the flow instead of restarting the download.
Keyboard and mouse input need focus inside the embedded window. Click the game area before moving or aiming. Use the project’s Configuration screen to inspect or change key bindings rather than assuming that every browser uses an identical mapping. Escape is a useful route back to the game menu.
When you want to use a full owned game
WebXash documentation describes a separate route for compatible files from your own installation. The Uplink demo and that full-game import are different choices. RadiantGames does not provide the commercial game folders, a replacement archive or a purchase download.
Read the maintainer’s requirements on the original project before importing anything. Also check the project’s storage and save guidance before moving between browsers. A bookmark in the RadiantGames shelf points back to this launcher; it does not copy your WebXash files or save progress across devices.
