A multiplayer arena rather than the solo campaign
This page embeds q2.pieter.com, an unofficial preservation project presented by Pieter’s online computer history museum. Its opening screen describes browser multiplayer for up to eight players. This is a live arena route, not a selection of the complete Quake II single-player campaign. The current map and player list belong to the host and can change between visits.
Enter a name, then allow the first download
Type a player name into the project’s field and choose Play. The engine then prepares its resources; this check displayed a 77.5 MB download. An advancing pak-file counter is normal first-load progress. Wait for it to finish rather than repeatedly restarting the frame. A later visit may benefit from browser caching, but clearing site data can require another download.
Get input and sound into the game
Click the scene to give the project keyboard and mouse focus. The current host advertises WASD movement, dragging or arrow keys to look, and Ctrl or a click to shoot. Its sound control may need a separate click because browsers restrict automatic audio. Use the four-arrow control under this page’s player to enlarge the same window without choosing a new name or reconnecting from scratch.
A match depends on the live server
The displayed player count and map are live host information, not a RadiantGames popularity score. An empty or unavailable arena is different from a failed download. Open Game source in a new tab to compare the original if connection stalls. The heart saves this launcher link on your device; it does not preserve a multiplayer match or promise the same opponents when you return.
