Browser game keyboard or mouse not working

Browser game keys or mouse not working? Check window focus, pointer capture and game bindings, with separate input steps for QuakeWorld, Uplink and Diablo.

Make one useful check at a time.

Start with what the window shows

Input troubleshooting begins after a playable scene has appeared. If you are still at a download screen, demo selector, connection message or hero-creation menu, movement keys are not the next step. Finish that project’s start sequence first. A game menu responding to clicks is useful evidence that the player is running even if movement has not begun.

This guide concerns the three players on RadiantGames App. It does not assume identical control mappings across browser games. A responsive page also cannot provide touch controls that an embedded project lacks.

Give the scene focus, then use one simple action

Click inside the playable area, away from the surrounding page buttons. A selected search box, browser address bar or player toolbar receives your next keys instead of the game. Try one movement action after focusing the scene; avoid changing several settings at once.

When returning from another tab or dismissing a game menu, click the scene again. If only the surrounding page scrolls, focus may still be outside the game. On a laptop, begin with a physical keyboard and mouse or the input method the project documents.

Separate a bigger window from mouse capture

Fullscreen makes the player larger. Pointer capture lets a game receive relative mouse movement; they are different browser capabilities. Enter fullscreen if space is the problem, then click the game and follow its own mouse-capture prompt if one appears.

Escape may release pointer capture or return to the project menu. Refocus the scene before continuing. This App cannot force a third-party window to capture the pointer, inspect its internal state or change its bindings.

Use the controls for the selected project

  • QuakeWorld: finish the name and Play steps, wait for the arena and use its current movement and aiming prompts. A connection that has not completed is a separate problem.
  • Half-Life Uplink: choose Uplink, Start Demo, then New game and a difficulty. Configuration in the game menu is the place to check bindings; Escape returns to that menu.
  • Diablo shareware: enter Single Player and create a hero. Mouse clicks drive walking, target selection and menus. Clicking the surrounding instructions will not move the hero.

Compare the same action in the original tab

Open the original-project link beside the player and repeat the same version and input action. If that action works in the original tab but fails in the embedded window, use the original tab for the session. The comparison is more useful than repeatedly reloading an active game.

If both contexts show the same issue, check the project’s current controls and supported device. Record the chosen version, screen reached and action attempted when asking its maintainer for help. Restarting interrupts the current session; it is not a way to back up progress.

Questions about this symptom

Will fullscreen fix movement keys?

Not by itself. Fullscreen changes the size of the player. The scene still needs focus and the project’s expected bindings.

Can RadiantGames add mouse capture to the game?

No. Mouse capture and game bindings are controlled by the browser and original project. Follow the prompts inside that project.

Should I clear browser data to fix keyboard input?

Begin with focus, the game menu and an original-tab comparison. Clearing project data can affect cached files or saves and is not a necessary first input check.
