Azeroth Survivors Mage build: choose a route before spending points

Compare Pyroclasm, Water Elemental and Arcane Power using the original v0.131.0 talent menu. See prerequisites, starting spells and a practical run checklist.

Pick one capstone, then build toward it

Mage has three trees: Arcane, Fire and Frost. The original v0.131.0 talent menu shows milestones at 10, 20 and 30 points in a tree, and a maximum of 51 points. The capstone also requires its named earlier talent. Spreading points across all three trees can delay the spell package you actually want.

Our menu inspection checked prerequisites and tooltips on 31 October 2026. It did not benchmark completed runs or rank every item combination. The route descriptions below are planning advice based on those mechanics, not a claim that one build is universally best.

Fire: Pyroclasm for explosions around kills

The visible Fire milestones were Ignite at 10 points, Hot Streak at 20 and Pyroclasm at 30. Pyroclasm requires 30 points in Fire and one point in Hot Streak. Its tooltip changes the starting spell to Pyroblast and describes a Fire-kill explosion dealing 25% of the defeated enemy’s maximum health within six yards, capped at three triggers per second.

That makes pack positioning and the ability to secure kills important to this route. A tooltip describing kill-triggered area damage does not guarantee the same advantage against an isolated boss. If the run feels strong in waves but weak at a boss, separate those two observations instead of judging the whole build by one damage total.

Frost: Water Elemental and recurring Frost Nova

Frostbite, Splitting Ice and Summon Water Elemental form the inspected 10/20/30-point milestones. The capstone needs 30 Frost points and one point in Splitting Ice. Its tooltip replaces Fireball with Frostbolt, adds a Water Elemental casting Frostbolts and describes a free Frost Nova every eight seconds.

This is the route to examine when creating space and managing nearby enemies matter to you. Movement still matters: a periodic control effect is not a promise of permanent safety. Check whether your actual loss came from being surrounded, a boss pattern or insufficient damage before changing several talents at once.

Arcane: Arcane Power and repeated hits

Arcane Concentration, Presence of Mind and Arcane Power are the inspected milestones. Arcane Power requires 30 Arcane points and one point in Presence of Mind. It starts the run with Arcane Missiles, adds a 20% chance for a second hit and allows the echo to repeat up to three more times, according to the tooltip.

Keep chance-based effects distinct from guaranteed damage. A single impressive sequence does not establish average output. When comparing Arcane with Fire or Frost, use the same difficulty, equipment and run conditions, and look at both survival and completion.

Why this is not a copied 51-point preset

The current menu confirms the major route gates, but this review did not validate a complete point-by-point allocation across every rank of every node. We therefore show the checked milestones instead of publishing a plausible-looking calculator with unverified numbers.

Before spending, read the prerequisite line and remaining points in the live menu. Talent XP is tracked for the class; Marks are a separate Collection balance. The menu describes a free respec, but keep your working setup noted before experimenting. See Marks and gear stars for the other progression system.

A small checklist for your next comparison

Choose a route and one problem to solve: crowded waves, boss damage or survival. Keep equipment and difficulty stable, note the starting spell, then record where the run failed or finished. Change one part of the plan before comparing another run.

The checklist below stays in this browser only and can help you remember those checks. It is not connected to the original save, does not spend talent points and cannot measure combat inside the original game. If you want a damage overlay, read the AddOns and DPS guide before installing third-party code.
